I wanted to wait a little while to write this post once I had been on a few visits to Thermëa Spa Village Whitby.
Since it opened in the fall I’ve already been to the spa five times, and I think I’ve tried a little bit of everything so I can give a proper review and provide tips on how to spend your day at the spa.
I’m lucky enough to only live less than ten minutes away from Thermëa, so I’ve taken advantage of a few girls days at the spa, and a few days on my own for pure relaxation. I’ll cover food, services, amenities and more in this post!
To start, here is a video I made of my first visit to Thermëa Whitby.
My first visit was in October, so the weather was beautiful and I had an amazing day! Here are a few things I want to share about visiting the spa.
Booking your Visit:
When booking your visit to the spa you can easily chose a time slot to arrive either online or over the phone. Online is very easy, and if you have any questions along the way they have a live chat box you can take advantage of.
There are entry times you can book to enter the spa every 15 minutes, and you can also decide if you want to add on any other experiences or treatments to your day.
The spa is open every day, but it does have differing closing times depending on the day. Once you enter the spa there is no designated time to leave – you can say right until closing!
What to Bring with You:
You will need sandals to wear for the day, and it’s suggested you bring a water bottle as well. If you forget, the water stations around the spa do have small cups you can use as well. The water stations at the spa change often and they are infused with fruits and herbs.
You will need a swimsuit for under your robe and to wear in the saunas, hot tubs and pools – otherwise you won’t need much else! Your credit card is linked to the wristband they provide as well.
Checking in:
One you walk into the spa there are staff to assist you, but the check in is done via stations where you can do the process on your own. Just scan your QR code emailed to you with your booking, activate the wrist band they provide, and once your locker number pops up on the screen you are ready to enter! I always take a photo of my locker number so I don’t forget.
Once you head downstairs you will scan your wristband to enter. Your wristband will serve as your payment method at the spa as well – anytime you purchase a drink or food they scan your wristband and your credit card used at booking will be charged.
Your locker is either in the designated women’s change room (you are asked upon booking if this is your preference), or the rest of the lockers are in a general area for men and women. There are locked changerooms you can use to get dressed if you are in this designated area. Your locker contains your fresh robe, towel, and a bag for your potentially wet items when you leave. Your wristband unlocks and locks your locker.
Additional Services and Experiences:
When making your reservation there are a few options on how you want to spend your day. Your entry into the spa includes use of the facilities which means the hot tubs, pools, saunas, and steam rooms.
Your other options for purchase include different treatments and massages,
One of the treatment options is Rhassoul which is a 30 minute treatment I tried on my second visit. It’s a communal treatment where you are in one of the steam rooms with a few other guests, and you are provided a clay face mask, Rhassoul clay for your body, and an exfoliating orange blossom scrub. Each station in the steam room has a shower, and the room is filled with aromatic steam. The treatment ends with a Moroccan mint team and Turkish delights. It was actually a lot of fun!
The massages offered are 60 minutes in length, and include a Mom-To-Be Massage, Lymphatic Massage (I really want to try this one!), Relaxation Massage, or Intensive Massage.
I have had both the Relaxation and Intensive Massage, and both were amazing!
When you do have a massage you can check in with the main desk just outside of the locker area, and a staff member will walk you upstairs to the lounge where you wait for your massage appointment. This lounge has cozy seating and a fireplace, along with tea and water while you wait, or for after your service. There is also an upstairs deck you can relax on after your service.
I haven’t tried any of the Body Care options to add on to your day at Thermëa, but they include foot treatments, face treatments and body scrubs.
My visits have either included one service (usually a massage), but even without a service your day can be filled with lots of other things to do!
As for experiences that are included with your entry, there are some fun ones!
The Aufguss Rituals are every hour from morning to night. There are two different experiences offered – one is called Classic and one is called Discovery. Each includes snowballs using water enriched with natural essential oils. They are poured onto the heated stones in the sauna, and the room is infused with the scent
The Rituals Artisan—using then begins a towel-waving choreographed show that brings you more heat and scent, and it’s really cool to watch. My preference is Discovery, because it’s all set to two songs (my favourite one was Beatles-themed), and it’s just a really cool experience you can’t miss.
There is also a secret ritual I can’t say too much about, but when you are walking around the village a staff member might ask you if you would like to attend. Say yes! It’s a very cool experience you need a special wristband for. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s very unexpected. Just say yes!
Food:
There are three dining options at Thermëa, and I’ve tried two out of the three!
The one spot I’ve been to the most is the Lounge which is absolutely delicious! It’s a casual space where anyone can take a seat and relax whether they are eating or not. There is a warm fireplace, and comfortable seating for eating, reading a book, or just relaxing.
I think I’ve had a mimosa here at every visit! I LOVE The Village Cheeseboard – it’s likely meant for two people because it’s so big but I love it so much I can finish it off on my own! I also really loved the Niagara Pear and Goat Cheese Sandwich, and Stacks|Chicken which is three different containers stacked and full of chicken, butter lettuce, kimchi, pickled daikon, cilantro, scallions, cucumbers and carrots.
I’ve also had the hot chocolate and a few different cocktails which have all been great!
Le Resto is the more formal option where you are seated for your meal, and they have appetizers, mains and desserts. I had the Seared Ontario Beef Striploin which was very good, and for dessert I had the Niagara Apple Pear Crumble with Canadian whisky caramel and cinnamon ice cream. It has a higher price point than the lounge, but it’s delicious!
The final option is on the second level of the spa with an option to sit on the patio, and it’s called the Biergarden. It has casual food offerings such as pretzels, smash burgers, tacos and lots of other options! I haven’t tried this one yet but someone told me the smash burger is delicious.
Over I think the food at Thermëa is amazing! I think my favourite part of the spa is actually eating there. There are so many different food options for everyone, and I really love the two restaurants I’ve tried so far.
How Long Should I Expect to Stay at the Spa?
I honestly think that 4-5 hours is the average amount of time I’ve spent at the spa either on my own or with friends, but I’ve also stayed much longer. My first visit was I was there for 7 hours, and that included a lovely one hour nap!
I think how long you stay could be weather dependent as well – during the warm days of fall I was more adventurous and used the pools as well, and I loved using the hammocks to have a a nap. Once the weather turns colder the hammocks are taken down along with some of the other outdoor swinging nap spots (I’m not sure how to describe them so this photo should help), and because it’s chillier you may want to cozy up instead with one of the outdoor fire pits, or one of the huts that have fireplaces in them.
I even went once on a very very rainy day, and still stayed 5 hours. I spent a lot of time in the lounge, and a bit of time in the hot tubs before drying off in the saunas.
Once you add in other services such as massages or body treatments it will definitely extend your stay!
Overall I’m a big fan of this spa, and I love that it’s in Whitby. It’s great for a day out with the girls, a date night, or just to get away on your own when you need to recharge.
In my opinion, it’s a must-visit! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me!
Items in this post may have been provided to me for review, but all opinions are fabulously my own.
Is there rooms to sleep over
Author
There aren’t any rooms to stay over – I’m wondering if they might eventually add that since there is more space at that location!
It really takes away from the authenticity of the post when you just shill for the client. You couldn’t find anything wrong? I’ve read 10 google reviews before this and they all said the food was mediocre, but you love it?
Options are all yours, but they’ve been influenced.

Hello! I actually wasn’t paid to write this post – I didn’t receive anything free to write it either. I used a gift card my parents gave me for Christmas. I do really like the food there! I was just there again last week – I really liked my meal! I suppose it depends on what you order or where you eat there, but I’ve really enjoyed all of my meals there!
