Last year I let my husband handle the outdoor holiday decorations on his own. I distinctly remember slowing driving up to our home after he was finished and saying to myself “what was I thinking?”.
It was not the vision I had when I asked him to handle it. I know, I know, I said HE could handle it so if I had a vision I should have maybe let him know, but I just wasn’t thinking it would go the way it did!
There were multicoloured lights mixed with white lights, and then he even added in icicle lights, and all of them had different colour strands. It was a mish-mash of everything I wouldn’t want to have on my home!
He thought I was joking when I asked him to do it over again (I was serious, but I backed down), so I let it ride out until December 26th and then I asked him nicely to take it all down!
This year I decided to take things into my own hands. Well, as much as I could – I couldn’t actually hang the lights myself, but I sure could take over the styling of the job!
First off, please let me show you the before photo! This is not a photo of last year – I would never take a photo of my house last year (seriously, it was bad) so I have a photo before we decorated.
We hung the same wreaths we had last year, and we purchased some holiday pots earlier in the month but otherwise we hadn’t done a thing yet!
We collaborated with The Home Depot on this project and shopped together at our local store in Whitby.
I decided I wanted all white lights. My husband tried to interject multiple times with suggestions for coloured lights, but I told him this was my year to decorate! We agreed that we would hang some coloured lights in the backyard on some of the larger trees. See, I can compromise a little!
We chose these lights for the roof and around the garage – the Home Accents Holiday C9 Indoor/Outdoor Lights in Clear (25-Count). I love them – they almost feel vintage because they aren’t LCD.
We decided to put the GE Holiday Classics 18 ft. Lighted Garland with 50 Clear Lights around our doorway – I love the look! We had a similar set at our old home a few years ago and it was lost in the move, so I loved having a garland over the door again!
We bought a wreath for over the garage, and I wanted the biggest one I could find! The Home Accents Holiday 48-inch Wreath with Red Poinsettia was the biggest one The Home Depot had!
It wasn’t pre-lit, so we had to choose which lights to wrap around it. My husband wanted to use the same C9 lights we used for the rest of the house, but I wanted smaller lights – we used the Home Accents Holiday Mini Light Set in Clear (100-Count) to wrap the wreath.
Finally just for fun we added a projector light to our rock – we chose the LightShow Projection-Ornate SnowFlurry (White). It was a fun addition to finish off the house!
Now for the “after” photos!
I love our outdoor holiday decor now! My husband admits now too that it looks so much better than last year! It’s a much more classic holiday look.
Thank you so much to The Home Depot for collaborating with us on this post!
Items in this post may have been provided to me for review, but all opinions are fabulously my own.
This was such a cute post!! LOL I think we all learnt that we should communicate our vision to our husbands!! haha!! All white creates such a warm feeling, and your house looks so nice. I love the big wreath over your Garage doors!! 🙂 Awesome job!!
That picture of you all wrapped up in the lights is just so cute.
