Canadian’s know we are plagued with difficult shopping conditions compared to our American counterparts. I know, I sound like I’m talking about something very serious here! Well for me, it is serious! Our prices are higher here than in the US, our outlets are even more expensive than the American outlet stores, and we don’t have the selection of stores they have in the US. Online shopping is our only way to access some of the brands that are out of our reach in Canada.

RUUM American Kid’s Wear has some very cute styles for spring and summer which they have just launched, and everything is very affordable. Recently P Diddy’s (AKA Puff Daddy, AKA Puffy, AKA whatever he is calling himself these days) kids were seen wearing RUUM’s spring and summer line on Instagram.

Rock Lobster Leslieville – Kids and Dogs Welcome!

A few months ago I blogged about my experience at Rock Lobster on Queen West. I loved the food, drinks and atmosphere – it was a great dinner and experience! You may remember from my original Rock Lobster post that I wasn’t sure that it was exactly kid-friendly. There wasn’t a child in sight, and the music was very very loud! Not exactly the right atmosphere for a toddler, or even a baby for that matter. The amazing news is that Rock Lobster has opened up another location in Toronto, but they not only encourage you bring your baby, but your dog too!

The new location is all the way down the other end Queen Street, and it has three patio’s, and they have water bowls for dogs as they are allowed to hang out on the patio while you are eating. The children’s menu at this location includes mac and cheese topped with crumbled Gold Fish, which sounds perfect for my toddler. I’m pretty excited as the seafood doesn’t get any fresher (flown in fresh from Nova Scotia!), and all of the appetizers, entree’s and cocktails were so creative. And when I am having lunch with my toddler, I need a cocktail.

Summer Hat Roundup

In the summer I slather sunscreen on my face. When I don’t, I can see the damage on my skin with unwanted freckles! Freckles are normally pretty cute, but not when one randomly pops up on my face and I know it’s because I didn’t protect myself. When I’m on the beach or I know I will be in the sun all day, I always throw on my fedora or cowboy hat. They usually don’t make it through too many summers once they fall in the ocean (completely ruins the fedora shape), or get ruined with sunscreen, get sat on, or leant to the wrong person without being returned!

Where to Shop – Soirée

When I hear the word soirée, I immediately think of a party I want to go to! It’s like when you see that you are invited to a soirée instead of just a regular party, that means it’s going to be so much better by title alone! Parties are my pretty much my jam. You could invite me to your puppy’s birthday party, and I would be there with a cute dress and a hostess gift without a second thought. Throwing a party or soirée myself ends up being days of Etsy shopping and Pinterest exploration.

The good news is that my party planning has been made easier with the opening of Soirée in Pickering! I frequent the Nautical Village of Pickering pretty often since we have boats on the water nearby, and while I was shopping the area a couple weeks ago I happened upon this awesome little gift and party décor shop!

Soirée has lots of unexpected gifts that are quirky and unique, and fit all kinds of occasions. The party supplies are to die for. There is specialized wrapping paper, carefully crafted present tags, and all kinds of coloured ribbon for gift wrapping. I love a good thank you card, and Soirée carries all kinds of them that I was sure I need to add to my stationary collection. One package of cards was even featured on the bulletin board Style at Home Magazine created for our home makeover. I always wondered where that card came from!

There is a section just for wedding items like cute banners, cake toppers, and all of the small detail items that you would want to set your day apart.

I think what I like most about Soirée is that the items they sell would set your party or event apart from the usual. A slice of cake is so much better on a plate that says “Eat Cake”, and a cupcake wrapped in a paris-themed wrapper is so much more impressive than one without it. Those are the details that set apart a regular party and an actual soirée! It’s the effort and the details which can really impress your guests.

It was quite difficult, but I narrowed down a few of my favourite items from the store. Trust me, it was not easy! You really need to take a look yourself.
