It’s only a few weeks from the end of the school year, and it’s time to get those summer plans finalized! Summer camps seem to be all I hear parents talking about around the school yard right now, so I really wanted to highlight an amazing summer camp option.
Last week we spent some time with Catalin who works with Nike Tennis Camps at the Amberlea Tennis Club in Pickering, and my son had the chance to see what it would be like to take a tennis lesson from an certified tennis pro!
Our lesson took place at Amberlea Tennis Club in Shadybrook Park, and I was really impressed with the courts – they were in amazing condition and are locked for use of tennis club members and campers in the summer.
Here’s what I learned right off the bat – my son was ready to listen and learn! He sometimes gets a little excited and can be hard to wrangle, but in this case he listened intently to every word Catalin had to say. He was so interested in learning to play this new sport!
I think it was very helpful to have a professional work with my son. There are so many different sports camps out there that just have counsellors involved, and not necessarily sports professionals. I really felt like having someone who could show him the ropes right from the moment he picked up the racket was so important in him getting a great start in tennis.
Nike Tennis Camps offer programs for kids who are in the beginner, intermediate and advanced level. They group players on the court with similar skills and experience, and they have a low camper-to-coach ratio.
Each camp mixes up daily tennis instruction, drills and match play, along with some fun activities and other sports throughout the day. At Nike Tennis Camps in Pickering, campers get an introduction to golf among other sports.
The camps run in seven locations across Canada including one location in Calgary, one in Ajax, one in Pickering, and four in Toronto.
Participants ages can range depending on the location (and in some locations children may be as young as 4), and not only is tennis covered during the camp but depending on the location of the camp other sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, and golf are included as well.
I love that before and after camp care may be arranged as well! It’s so helpful to have that extra leeway time to get from work to camp pick up or drop off each day – it’s such a convenient option!
Certified coaches, half-day and full-day programs, before and after-care options, and multiple date choices make signing up for a Nike Tennis Camp an amazing summer camp option.
My son has asked me multiple times since we played tennis when he can play again, so I think we will need to get back on the court very soon!
