Update On Our Hallway Makeover

Mandy Furnis Update on our hallway makeover Metrie sparkleshinylove

The hardest part of home renovations? How little I get to help! My input is huge on these projects (just ask my hubby!), but the brunt of the work falls on his shoulders. Luckily my husband loves doing these types of projects, and especially loves doing them himself. It might have something to do with his attention to detail. Trust me, if something isn’t straight he thinks about every time he sees it. I’ve watched him stare at a corner for a good ten minutes, and when I stare at it I see nothing. Before I know it he’s ripped it apart and started over again!

I’d say in our relationship I have an eye for fashion and he has an eye for detail! Thank goodness it’s him taking the measurements in this project!

As much as I hate to show you before photos, or even in progress photos, I think it’s good to see how far we’ve come on a project before it looks all bright and shiny in the final reveal!

This is where we started. It’s kind of sad and dreary – builder installed carpet and that’s about it!

We’ve come a long way since then! We have installed new hardwood from Alexanian – they are our go-to for hardwood flooring! We loved the hardwood we chose from them for my walk-in closet, and now we are so happy with our choice for the hallway.

Our builder installed hardwood on our lower level and on our stairs, but since we were doing the upstairs hallway ourselves we needed to find the perfect match. The match is perfect and I love our new floor!

After working with Metrie interior finishings for our last project (I’m talking about my super amazing closet which you can see here!), we knew that the quality of the products were outstanding so we wanted to work with their materials again to create a much more polished hallway.

The difference between Metrie products compared with what we had previously – builder finishings – was like night and day. I know what it’s like to walk into a house and say “wow”, but I truly didn’t realize that the ‘wow’ factor often came from the finishings used in the home! The doorways, the baseboards, the crown molding – they all add to that “wow” factor that you feel when you see a truly beautiful room.

It’s funny how you don’t know how much you needed something until you see it right in front of you. My husband said we should add Metrie architrave to our doors upstairs and I said sure, not really “getting” why we needed it, but it’s probably how he doesn’t “get it” when I say I need another colour of the Valentino sandals I already have.

Once I saw what the architrave looked like above our doors I couldn’t believe I’d never thought to add it to our doors before! What an incredible difference it makes to a doorway! I now need it above ALL of my doors. I’m completely obsessed. It makes our ceilings look that much higher! We chose Metrie Fashion Forward Scene II 3 ½ MDF Architrave for our doorways.

Our doorways downstairs are 9ft, but upstairs they are only 8ft, but I think this architrave makes them look taller than they are!

We have one Metrie door completed (my closet door of course!) and the rest of the doors will soon match. There will be 8 in total, and they will all be the Metrie Fashion Forward Collection Solid Interior doors.

After working on my closet project I had another molding-related epiphany (who knew so many would come up, especially related to molding in my life!) and it was about baseboard. The higher, the better is my new mantra when it comes to baseboard. How much better does this Metrie baseboard look than our previous builder baseboard? It makes a world of difference, and it gets me so excited for the final reveal!

Our baseboard for this project is the Metrie French Curves Scene I 5 ½ MDF Baseboard.

We chose the Metrie 3 5/16 MDF Crown which will be going up shortly!

What’s left to do? Our Metrie crown molding needs to go up, the rest of the baseboard, and finally the doors. My husband has finished all of the Metrie architrave, he has installed all of the new door frames, and I’ve done what I’m allowed to do – planned the decor!

We chose the Metrie Fashion Forward Scene II 3 ½ MDF Casing which makes our doorways look so much more emphasized

We picked up two of these white tables from Urban Barn which I blogged about here, but I’ve changed my decor plans a few times since then. The tables are staying, and I ordered these lights from Wayfair which should arrive this week! I love them – seriously. I had to argue with the hubby over them because he had something else in mind, but eventually he got on board.

We chose a larger light from Wayfair for the landing, and the two smaller Wayfair lights will go in the hallway.

Finally I’m working on some large prints for the hallway of the family – I need to choose the frames in the next couple weeks because we are almost done this project!

I can’t wait to finish this project! It won’t be much longer, and I should have a final reveal for you soon!

I totally want to get rid of all the carpet in the house and get hardwood flooring..but the time, the cost and where do you put all the furniture while you are trying to do this?
