When I had my son I had NO idea what I was doing! Like most of the women I know, I turned to friends and family for advice on what I needed to buy when I was pregnant, and I probably logged thousands of Google searches on what I had to register for!
I found the registry process a little overwhelming. I registered at a baby store where I was handed a scanner and was sent into the isles of the the baby-product wilderness to scan everything I thought I needed.
Here’s what happened – my little boy arrived, and a couple days later we were back at that baby store trying to pick up the things that we ACTUALLY needed.
There will never be a magic list with everything you will need for your baby – I think that is really dependent on you and your child. BUT I think it’s amazing when you get a little bit of guidance to help you along in the right direction!
When buybuyBABY opened in my hometown of Whitby I was excited to check it out! I just love shopping for my son, so to have a new spot in town with practically everything I could need for him in one location was amazing.
I remember there was an amazing stroller I really wanted to buy before my son was born, but I had to drive over an hour just to look at one because there were no other retailers in my area who had it. Then arrives buybuyBABY and not only do they have that stroller, but they also have almost every other stroller on the market!
Not only do they have some pretty amazing services at all of the buybuyBABY locations (I will be highlighting the ones that the Whitby store in particular has running over the course of this year!), but there was one I really wanted to chat about – their Gift Registry!
I’ve never seen such attention to detail when it comes to helping new Mothers-to-be with their registry – they truly do an amazing job of preparing mother’s for the daunting task of choosing the products they need for their baby.

As you can see, I had support from the buybuyBABY staff from start to finish. I wasn’t just handed a scanner – I had someone help me every step of the way.
Appointments for registering can be made in advance, or it’s possible to just walk in. I would suggest making an appointment so they can prepare for your visit.
The appointment starts with some one-on-one time with a one of their registry experts. They provided me with a checklist of all of their recommended baby items (super helpful to reference in case you forget something!), and you can chat about what you think you are looking for. They even provide refreshments, and a spot to put away your coat and bag so you are free to shop. If you have another little one with you there is a washroom and nursing room nearby as well.
They also give out a goody bag with an assortment of free samples and information which I thought was a great bonus.
When it comes time to start scanning items your representative will have cleared time to assist you. They will scan everything for you along the way if you would like which I think is great. buybuyBABY has expert staff who know and understand all of their products to help you choose what could work best for your needs.
buybuyBABY also provides free announcement cards to let your guests know where you’ve registered (which I took a look at them and they are super cute!), and you can add to or edit your registry online on their website!
What if your friends or family aren’t nearby or don’t live close to a buybuyBABY? They can also shop your registry online or at any Bed Bath & Beyond for you as well! buybuyBABY is affiliated with Bed Bath & Beyond so the items you choose in-store can be shipped either to you, or to the person who is registered.
Some of my favorite perks? I had no idea, but they have a gift wrapping station in-store! If you are shopping for a registry you can head to the wrapping station to bring your gift home ready to give. They had everything from wrapping paper, ribbon, and all kind of bags for any sized gift. They even had gift tags – this is a really great bonus for anyone shopping from your registry.
Finally, what happens if you don’t receive everything you need? What if there are things you need that you didn’t anticipate? buybuyBABY offers a completion shop – that means that you can come in for a one-time shop after your baby is born and receive 10% off your entire purchase. I think that’s such an amazing gesture!
They also offer a referral program. If you let someone know all about buybuyBABY and their registry services and they provide your name to the staff, you will receive a $25 reward off of a $100 purchase. These babies are expensive creatures, so these bonuses really add up!
