My Top 5 Skincare Products for Surviving Winter

My Top 5 Skincare Products for Surviving Winter

I try a lot of beauty products for the blog, and I know that results of some products are heightened when you use the whole line, but sometimes I like choose an item or two from a brand instead of the whole kit.

This winter the weather has been up and down, and my skin luckily has had one of it’s best years! Usually with the weather changing I tend to go from dry to oily, from breakouts to unexplained itchy patches, but I’m on a roll right now and have had a good run of clear and healthy skin.

I have a few coveted products I have been using in the morning, at night, or often both so I thought I would share what has been working for me. Some of them I have already reviewed at length, and links to them are below.

To get off my waterproof eyeliner and mascara I depend on Benefit’s they’re Real Remover. I use Benefit mascara (I switch around between they’re Real and Roller Lash), so I suppose it’s a perfect match to use this remover, but the best part is that it’s a cream remover so it’s not harsh. I don’t feel like I’m going to lose an eye when I accidentally get it in there, and it doesn’t dry my skin out.

My favourite exfoliator right now is the Indeed Labs Facial Powdered Exfoliator. I blogged about this at the end of the summer and put together a little video of how it worked as well which you can take a look at here!

It’s gentle enough to use often. Some exfoliators I find to be very harsh, but this one I don’t mind using every day. That’s a big step for a girl like me who used to skip exfoliating all the time!

When it comes to eye cream, I can’t believe how freaking good this 100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream smells!

I have been using it for a couple of months and it’s lightened my under eye circles so it’s a winner. It’s also anti-inflammatory so it helps those early morning puffy eyes.

I unfortunately have an addiction to this Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream, but I supposed it’s not actually a bad thing because my skin has been incredibly healthy looking since I started using it!

I thought it was soothing from day one, but I really think it’s contributed to my clear and bright skin this winter.

Finally, my favourite smelling lotion EVER is Go Be Lovely Coconut Milk Mango Lavish Hand Creme. I bought it at Anthropologie, and I know it’s supposed to be a hand cream but I’m using it as an all-over body cream.

It smells fantastic, and the scent is long lasting. I love love love smelling like food, and this cream is incredible.

I hope the winter hasn’t been wreaking havoc on your own skin, and if it is then give some of these products I’m loving a try!

Chanel Brooch – Chanel | Cape Blazer – Zaful | Black Skinny Jeans – Levis 710 | Thigh High Boots – Forever 21 (similar)| Classic Flap Bag – Chanel

Usually I wear a lot of colour, but last week was a departure for me I wore a lot of black. I have the staple little black dresses and a few black sweaters, but otherwise I stay away from black because I feel like it makes me look a little sad! When I do my laundry I have darks, whites, and a hot pink pile, so that is pretty telling in which colours I gravitate towards.

One of my newest and most covereted additions to my wardrobe is my new Chanel brooch. My parents apparently love me A LOT (and have impeccable taste!) because they bought me this fabulous gift for Christmas. I absolutely love it. On my first occasion wearing it I felt like it needed to shine on it’s own, which is why I wore all black.

Aside from the obvious beauty and sparkle of this piece (and there is a lot of that!), I’m crazy about the versatility of it.

I chose to wore it with a cape blazer in this instance, but I love that I can add it to virtually any outfit.

One of the main reasons I wore it with an all black ensemble was because I wanted it to be the focus of the outfit, but I think that will be the case anytime I accessorize with it.

I can’t wait to come up with new ways to style it! It makes me want to search for more brooches to add to my wardrobe to accessorize with.

Spending the Weekend in the Snow with Baffin Boots

Spending the Weekend in the Snow with Baffin Boots

I can’t tell you how excited we were to see it finally snow over the holidays! At our house we had been waiting to get outside and enjoy some tobogganing once we finally had some good snowy weather.

My toddler and I tested out some new boots from Baffin while we enjoyed the snow, and I loved that we were matching!

First of all, I can’t tell you how comfortable my Baffin boots were. They were so incredibly cozy! Hands down they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. They have an Eco Down high-loft insulation which would explain why it felt like I was lowering my feet into a comfy pillow each time I put them on!

They were very easy to slide on, and there were two different drawstrings on the boot where I could adjust the fit.

My son really loved how easy they were to put on as well, and he was so proud of himself when he was able to get them on quickly with absolutely no help.

These Baffin Ease Womens boots were also very warm. I didn’t need to worry about having cold toes in the snow because these boots had a temperature rating of 10C/50F to -30C/-22F.

These boots were are waterproof, and because of the drawstring and toggle I could make sure no snow was going to fall down into my boots.

I also liked that these boots were stylish enough to wear out shopping over the weekend as well. I really liked the ankle boot version of these Ease Women’s boots because they looked great with jeans, and I could dress them up a bit with a more formal jacket. When I said I wore these boots all weekend, I meant it!

Overall both my son and I loved spending the weekend in the snow in our Baffin boots, and for the rest of this season’s cold weather we will be sporting these stylish boots!

Thanks so much to Baffin for providing us these great boots for this post!

Anna Coroneo Scarves have landed in Canada Exclusively at Holt Renfrew

Whenever I complete my annual Holiday Gift Guide, I always end up finding something I wish I had of added to it once it’s finished. This was the case when I heard about Anna Coroneo’s luxury scarf collection launching exclusively in Canada at Holt Renfrew.

Anna Coroneo is an Australian designer who is based in both London and New York, and her scarves are like artwork. Not only are the pattern’s stunning, but they feel like a luxury just to tie one on. I got a close up look myself at Holt Renfrew last week, and they are beautiful in person.

Anna is an artist and a designer, and her artwork translates into prints, stationary, accessories, and of course fabulous scarves

I visited the Holt Renfrew at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, and they have Anna’s scarves displayed front and centre when you walk into the accessories entrance in the store.

I think scarves are the ultimate accessory. Whether they are worn traditionally and tied around the neck, or knotted onto a handbag or wrist they often become more than an accessory and take centre stage in an outfit. I am pretty sure I own more scarves than shoes if you can believe that! I am completely and totally in love with Anna Coroneo’s Pineapples Classic Voile Pareoscarf. It’s so bright and bold, and since I love pineapples it really doesn’t get better than this scarf.

Anna Coroneo’s scarves have been featured in Vogue, Glamour, Marie Claire, and Elle among so many others, and it’s easy to see why. They are vibrant, fun, and I’m kind of in love with them.

The Highlight Reel of my NYC Trip

The highlight reel of my NYC trip

Every year near Christmas I travel to NYC for some holiday shopping! I wrote about my last few trips here and here, and this year was a little different because I spent the night.

Highlights of my NYC Trip

My first time in New York I was there for about a week and did everything on the tourist bucket list. I’ve seen Times Square, Rockafeller Centre, the Empire State Building, and everything on those “must see” lists that you see over and over again on the Internet.

Each year that I go back I tend to choose the Christmas season because it’s so beautiful in the city, and I have shopping to do!

This year instead of flying in and out the same day, I stayed overnight to get more shopping time in. There were a few extra things I wanted to do this year as well.

As usual I flew Porter which I LOVE, but this year I used the new underground tunnel instead of the ferry. It was beyond fast and easy! I also tried their pre-booked parking as well which I really liked. I paid in advance to park, and a free shuttle took me to the airport in under 5 minutes. Porter really does think of everything!

 Highlight of my NYC Trip

One of the highlights of my trip was heading to Soho for some shopping, and to have lunch at Ladurée. I can’t believe I’d never been to Soho before! Especially since it’s right beside Little Italy which I have been to before.

There were so many great stores, from the fabulous and luxe Chanel and Louis Vuitton, to boutiques and shops that had independent designer wear and handcrafted goods that couldn’t be found anywhere else.

Ladurée was beautiful. There was a back terrace, along with a bake shop in the front selling their famous macarons. The restaurant was intimate, and very chic. The staff spoke French, and the menu was French as well. On my way out I obviously had to buy a box of macarons, and a few extra to eat as I shopped.

I had the Salade Soho, and I could hardly finish it, and I also had their Chocolat Ladurée. It was their famous version of hot chocolate, but it was more like a drinkable chocolate sauce. It was pretty amazing, and a must try if you visit!

After spending the rest of my day on 5th Avenue I made a quick stop at Sprinkles Cupcakes. There were many cupcake stops on my trip including to Magnolia and the bake shops at The Plaza Hotel Food Hall. Sprinkles was fun because they had a cupcake ATM! The inside of the shop was cute, but pretty ordinary. The cupcake ATM was a must-visit because hello, it’s a cupcake ATM! Oh yes, and the cupcakes were good too!

My day of marathon shopping ended with a reservation at Bergdorf Goodman’s famous BG Restaurant. I made a reservation well in advance, and requested a view of Central Park.

I arrived for a rather early dinner at 5:00pm, and the place was completely packed! I was so glad I had a reservation because the restaurant was full of women just like me, completely exhausted and ready for a glass of champagne!

I had the Lobster Macaroni and Cheese which was actually the best I’d ever had (and that’s saying a lot since I order it any place that offers it) and a glass of champagne. It was the perfect location, and a great restaurant for a girl who needed a shopping break.

Before I left on my trip I booked a visit to the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Last year I didn’t realize how busy it was, and I couldn’t get in because so many people had pre-booked tickets. This year I knew I wanted to see it so I booked my entry time online.

Even at 9:30am there was a line up just with people who had pre-booked tickets. It didn’t take long to get in, but when I left a couple hours later the line up was massive.

The museum was incredible. I realized after walking for a few minutes that it was a very different museum experience because there were no children, and everyone was very quiet.

Photos could only be taken in certain areas of the museum, and in most sections they were prohibited. It’s hard to describe the whole experience. I thought it was beautifully done, but I had a hard time seeing some of the photos and footage. It was amazing to see things that were recovered (such as seat belts from one of the planes) and things recovered from the buildings, but it was very emotional. I couldn’t get through some of the museum, and it still took me two hours from start to finish. I absolutely recommend seeing it for yourself – it was very powerful. I did need a bit of time once I left to get my head straight again as it was based on such tragic events.

On my way to Starwberry Fields in Central Park I happened to pass Tavern on the Green, and they had a beautiful patio that people were enjoying because of the amazing weather. I only wore a sweater while on my trip because it was so warm in the city, and I couldn’t help but stop for a mimosa on the patio.

I’d never been inside Tavern on the Green before, but it was gorgeous. It was packed on a Saturday afternoon, but the patio had lots of room so I took a breather. I can’t wait to head back one day to have lunch or dinner there. In this case I had no time, but it was the perfect spot for a mimosa!

If you are looking for a weekend getaway you should consider flying with Porter to NYC! The trip is quick and easy from Toronto, and I can’t wait to get back there.
