It’s official – we have finally made it to spring! My thoughts immediately turn to a fresh slate which includes a bit of spring cleaning. Not just my household – my closet and my wardrobe need a refresh.
I spend a bit of time each spring making sure my wardrobe is ready for spring, and I’m going to share some tips with you on what I do, and how you can do the same to get yourself spring ready!
You don’t need a big shopping spree or a huge budget to get your wardrobe ready for the change in seasons. Really what you need is a fresh start – put away the old, and bring out a new season of clothing.
Packing Away Your Winter Wardrobe
At this point in the year the hope is that you won’t need those oversized cable-knit sweaters and heavy scarves again until the fall, so it’s time to pack them away to make room for your spring clothing.
I love putting away my heavier clothing because it provides me with so much more closet space. Before I pack things away I make sure they have been freshly washed to stand up the next few months of storage, whether they are folded and shelved away or moved to another closet.

Here’s the thing – I don’t actually LOVE doing laundry, so the easier for me, the better! One long-standing argument with the hubby and I is HOW to do laundry. Next up I start bringing out the spring items I’ve stored away, organize my clothing by colour, and assess what I have. If I find doubles I donate them, and if I find things aren’t quite as fresh as they should be, I wash them.
If some trends have faded, I donate those looks as well, and decide what I need to keep or give away. I try to hold onto classic pieces I could wear again, or things that may go back into style in a few years.
Once I have a good idea of what I have, I start to make a list of what I need. This is the best part!
Create a Wardrobe Wish List
My wish list is always long, but I narrow down to the essentials. What do I really need? What are this year’s versatile pieces that I can mix and match with my existing wardrobe?
I try not to go ahead and buy a whole new wardrobe for spring, but instead I try to decide which essentials I need to get me through the next season.
Mixing the new items I pick up with some of my older pieces means that I will have a set of new looks to take me through the next few months.
