Being creative at Halloween is one of my favorite things to do! I love putting together an unexpected costume that you can’t buy off the rack, and if it involves paint, glue, and maybe even a little glitter I get excited!

This year my costume challenge was a fun one – I created a Halloween costume out of Amazon smile boxes! As an avid Amazon Prime member, I had a lot of these boxes! Amazon Prime has sponsored this DIY project that I have created for Halloween.

Really what I was making was a Boxtume – have you heard of them before? Boxtumes are creative costumes that you can make at home using Amazon smile boxes and crafting supplies from around your house!

What do you think I created out of these boxes from Amazon? This DIY project was easy and fun – I decided to make my son……..a traffic light costume!

I ordered a few other materials using my Prime membership (love their fast and free shipping), and I was ready to go! Here is the list of materials I needed to create this fun and easy costume!

Amazon smile boxes
Black Construction Paper
Red, Yellow and Green Party Plates
Yellow Paint
Paint Brush
Scissors
Glue Gun
Rope

Luckily there wasn’t a lot of cutting for this project! I cut two holes in one of the larger boxes for my son’s arms and I was ready to paint. I ordered this yellow paint here on Amazon, and I ended up ordering an extra paintbrush half-way through the project because my older paint brush wasn’t in great shape! Amazon Prime is really such a time-saver – everything I was missing arrived the next day, so my project wasn’t delayed at all.

I ended up adding two coats to the box so it was completely covered in yellow paint.

Next up – the lights!

Luckily I’m having a Halloween party in a few weeks, so ordering red, green and yellow party plates was a two-fold purchase! Some of the plates would be for my party, and a few would be for this project.

Before gluing them on the box, I made a larger black circle to paste the plate onto before gluing it onto the box. The lights popped a bit better with the black background. This stack of construction paper was perfect (again we can use the rest for other crafts).

Next up I thought it would be cute to have an accessory – why not have a crosswalk light as a candy box? I printed off a crosswalk signal, pasted it onto black construction paper, and I painted one of the smaller Amazon smile boxes yellow. Again I needed two coats for the box to be totally yellow.

Once I glued on the crosswalk light, I just added a rope handle and voila – I was done! How adorable is this costume?
