5 Things You Should Know About Monster Jam!

5 Things You Need to Know About Monster Jam!

Having a boy has exposed me to a whole new world filled with weekends reading books about trucks, playing trucks on the floor, and talking about trucks. I spend many of our car rides looking for cool trucks to point out to my son so he gets a glimpse at one of his favourite things.

I had never been to Monster Jam before, but my son was incredibly excited to go so it was really a no brainer. I have to admit – it was pretty fun!

I know it sounds obvious, but the trucks were HUGE! I had never seen one in person before, so I was surprised how massive they were!

We had a really great time, and if you are thinking about going to one of the upcoming shows, here are a few things you should know!

1. Ear plugs are a must! The show is extremely loud, so we bought some great ear protectors for my son at Walmart for $20, and we also heard that Princess Auto had them as well. Even when I was in the bathroom I had to keep my earplugs in – it’s that loud. Definitely bring some sort of ear protection with you.

2. There is a lot of enticing merchandise for kids at the show. They even have what looks like monster truck tire ear muffs at the show, but please note these are not actually ear protection – they are just for fun (thanks Steph for pointing that out to me!). There is everything from t-shirts, to snowcones in collectors cups, to toy monster trucks that all of the kids were going crazy for.

3. Monster Jam is not just for boys! As I said, I actually had a great time! It was really entertaining. There was a lot of action happening at once, and it was fun to watch. The girls in the crowd were going crazy for the lone female driver on the course.

4. There is a Pit Party before the main event. We missed out on tickets this year (they were sold out when we tried to get our hands on them), but we have heard it’s really fun and a great way to get up close to all of the featured trucks. Families can see the trucks up close and check out the track before the show. Buy early or you will miss out like we did. Normally the Pit Party is a few hours before the show, with a two hour break in between the Pit Party and show start.

5. Worried about a smaller child sitting through the show? If you have a small child or one that has a short attention span, note that the show is approximately 2.5 hours with an intermission. If you are worried about the length of the show, it’s good to know the first half is where all of the monster truck racing happens, and the second half is just for the monster trucks to do a freestyle of the course. If you are concerned about your child sitting through the whole show, you could just pick the half you would rather see and still have an amazing experience.

Monster Jam is likely coming to a city near you, so make sure to check out the show and see when you can attend it yourself!

A Roundup of All Things Pineapple

A Roundup of All Things Pinapple

I’m not sure what sparked it, but last year I started up quite the little curated collection of pineapple-themed items.

I bought everything from tanks and tee’s, necklaces, candles, and stationary. I find myself always looking for ways to redecorate with pineapple decor in my home!

I’ve been shopping around and have found so many cute finds along the way. I’m sharing my top picks for pineapple-themed items below just in case you have a strange obsession with this fruit like I do!

Fringe Dress – RD style from Turquoise Boutique | Shoes – Expression from The Bay (sold out, similar) | Collar Necklace – Forever 21 | Clutch – Chanel

Turquoise Boutique is my go-to store when I need something for a fun night out, or even something casual for weekends. They have the best dresses! Yes they have some great jackets, scarves, sweaters, tops and pants too…well I guess they have everything really, but I love their dresses especially.

When I saw this cute black fringe dress, I was in love! It just hit the shelves last week, and lucky for me Turquoise is having their 50% off sale! The dress was regular $29.99, so I got an amazing deal for $15.00! Everything in the store is on sale night now – no exclusions – so if you need anything stylish right now you should stop by!

Back to the dress – it’s simple, and I love the unexpected fringe under the arms. I can’t wait to wear it for a great night out. I paired it with one of my favourite heels from The Bay (Expression) that have a great blue pop of colour.

The 50% off sale is still happening now at all 4 Turquoise Boutique’s locations, so stop by soon to get your hands on your own great outfit!

My Top 5 Skincare Products for Surviving Winter

My Top 5 Skincare Products for Surviving Winter

I try a lot of beauty products for the blog, and I know that results of some products are heightened when you use the whole line, but sometimes I like choose an item or two from a brand instead of the whole kit.

This winter the weather has been up and down, and my skin luckily has had one of it’s best years! Usually with the weather changing I tend to go from dry to oily, from breakouts to unexplained itchy patches, but I’m on a roll right now and have had a good run of clear and healthy skin.

I have a few coveted products I have been using in the morning, at night, or often both so I thought I would share what has been working for me. Some of them I have already reviewed at length, and links to them are below.

To get off my waterproof eyeliner and mascara I depend on Benefit’s they’re Real Remover. I use Benefit mascara (I switch around between they’re Real and Roller Lash), so I suppose it’s a perfect match to use this remover, but the best part is that it’s a cream remover so it’s not harsh. I don’t feel like I’m going to lose an eye when I accidentally get it in there, and it doesn’t dry my skin out.

My favourite exfoliator right now is the Indeed Labs Facial Powdered Exfoliator. I blogged about this at the end of the summer and put together a little video of how it worked as well which you can take a look at here!

It’s gentle enough to use often. Some exfoliators I find to be very harsh, but this one I don’t mind using every day. That’s a big step for a girl like me who used to skip exfoliating all the time!

When it comes to eye cream, I can’t believe how freaking good this 100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream smells!

I have been using it for a couple of months and it’s lightened my under eye circles so it’s a winner. It’s also anti-inflammatory so it helps those early morning puffy eyes.

I unfortunately have an addiction to this Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream, but I supposed it’s not actually a bad thing because my skin has been incredibly healthy looking since I started using it!

I thought it was soothing from day one, but I really think it’s contributed to my clear and bright skin this winter.

Finally, my favourite smelling lotion EVER is Go Be Lovely Coconut Milk Mango Lavish Hand Creme. I bought it at Anthropologie, and I know it’s supposed to be a hand cream but I’m using it as an all-over body cream.

It smells fantastic, and the scent is long lasting. I love love love smelling like food, and this cream is incredible.

I hope the winter hasn’t been wreaking havoc on your own skin, and if it is then give some of these products I’m loving a try!

Chanel Brooch – Chanel | Cape Blazer – Zaful | Black Skinny Jeans – Levis 710 | Thigh High Boots – Forever 21 (similar)| Classic Flap Bag – Chanel

Usually I wear a lot of colour, but last week was a departure for me I wore a lot of black. I have the staple little black dresses and a few black sweaters, but otherwise I stay away from black because I feel like it makes me look a little sad! When I do my laundry I have darks, whites, and a hot pink pile, so that is pretty telling in which colours I gravitate towards.

One of my newest and most covereted additions to my wardrobe is my new Chanel brooch. My parents apparently love me A LOT (and have impeccable taste!) because they bought me this fabulous gift for Christmas. I absolutely love it. On my first occasion wearing it I felt like it needed to shine on it’s own, which is why I wore all black.

Aside from the obvious beauty and sparkle of this piece (and there is a lot of that!), I’m crazy about the versatility of it.

I chose to wore it with a cape blazer in this instance, but I love that I can add it to virtually any outfit.

One of the main reasons I wore it with an all black ensemble was because I wanted it to be the focus of the outfit, but I think that will be the case anytime I accessorize with it.

I can’t wait to come up with new ways to style it! It makes me want to search for more brooches to add to my wardrobe to accessorize with.
