Creating a Lego Themed Party Table

Anyone who has given their child a birthday party knows that when you ask them “what type of party do you want?”, it changes daily. Spider-Man, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Big Hero 6…..every day I asked, the party theme seemed to change. Finally my son and I settled on a theme he luckily didn’t change his mind on – Lego!

My son loved The Lego Movie, and he’s been loving putting Lego sets together so the theme stuck long enough that I could have the party.

We had the party with family at our home, and I wanted to do a great cake table with the Lego theme.

To start, I wanted a fun tablecloth. Of course I couldn’t find what I wanted anywhere, I decided to go to Fabricland and have a tablecloth cut! It seemed a bit easier to look through a store full of fabrics to pick out my favourite pattern instead of finding a pre- made table cloth online.

Next up I decided to make my own backdrop for the table. I purchased three poster boards that I taped together for only a few dollars at Walmart, amd then I got to work on making paper fans. There are plenty of Etsy shops online selling paper fans, but I decided to make them myself for this project. They were super easy to make, and all I needed was some paper and a glue stick! I used scrapbook paper so they were a bit more sturdy. I also purchased a fancy hole punch from Michaels to give some of the fans a pattern.

I ordered the invitations, water bottle labels, and thank you notes from Lucky Little Prints on Etsy. They had a whole package which also included personalizing their Lego party themed items including cupcake toppers and a welcome sign!

A Lego cake was in order for the table, and I wanted it to have some height so it was actually two cakes stacked on top of each other. I also wanted cake pops as a treat as well, amd I made my own cake pop holder.

I used two pieces of styrofoam as the base, and to make each look like a piece of Lego I cut styrofoam balls in half, and glued them onto each styrofoam block. I pained each red to finish it off.

I used Lego stickers to theme the popcorn tubs and cady bags for the candy jars, and used some colourful paper straws to decorate the table.

As a thank you gift I had Lego cookies for each of our guests from Sweet Treats by Franca P.

How adorable are these cookies? And they tasted AMAZING! I was so happy with the way they looked, and they tasted so good we didn’t want to give them away. Sweet Treats by Franca P. will create custom treat orders for sugar cookies, Oreo pops, chocolate marshmallows, chocolate strawberries and even caramel corn! I loved the way they packaged these cookies as well – they looked amazing.

Some of the finishing touches on the table included large Lego blocks from Toys R Us, and also a gold “3” balloon to finish off the table.

I had a few other themed items around the house like this soap dispenser I made with Legos floating inside.

Catering lunch was easy with help of Panera Bread – they had customizable lunch boxes which included either a sandwich, pickle, a cookie and chips, or half a sandwich, salad, cookie and chips. They made passing out lunch really easy!

Summer Cover Up’s!

image

I have a thing for beach cover up’s, mostly because I’m nervous about having something slip, fold or fall out at an inconvenient moment. Who wants to eat nachos in a bikini? Not this girl! I’d rather cover up and spill salsa on a dress than my exposed tummy that I’m desperatly trying to suck in while eating said-nachos.

I loving finding the perfect cover up, but they can be hard to find so I often use a flowy dress or romper to do the trick. Anything with a lightweight fabric that will dry easily, and will allow me to be a bit more comfortable in a bathing suit.

Here are a few cover up’s I’m thinking about adding to my arsenal this summer for the beach or when I’m poolside!

Gladiator Sandal Roundup for Spring/Summer 2015

Gladiator sandals sparkleshinylove

It’s spring, so it’s time to loose the boots, get a pedicure, and get back into those cute sandals that have been collecting dust all winter.

Flip flops seem to be one of those things that accumulate in my closet each summer, but I love to have a great dressy sandal that’s comfortable to wear but looks great. This Steve Madden gladiator sandals are one of my favourite shoes right now. They can be dressed down with a pair of jean shorts, or dressed up its a skirt like I’m wearing here.

They are really comfy! It’s a nicer way to wear a casual sandal. Here are a few more that are new for summer below!

Aisabobo Brings Serious Style and Comfort to Children’s Clothing

Aisabobo review sparkleshinylove

Finding new brands for kids clothing makes me happy! I love dressing my son as much as I love finding my own coveted wardrobe pieces, and sometimes finding him a great outfit can be even more challenging then finding one for myself.

Last week I started following Aisabobo on Instagram, and I thought they had some really great outfits for kids! Aisabobo is a new luxury clothing brand for boys and girls aged 3 to 7, and they strive to balance fashion with function.

Their first spring/summer collection based on re-imagining the garden party. There are romper suits, A-line dresses, and asymmetrical frocks for girls, and contrast-collar polo shirts and gingham-lined khaki shorts for boys. I literally just bought the adult version of this outfit for myself!

Aisabobo has all of the important things us parents look for in children’s clothing like soft linings and tags, adjustable waistbands, and interior plackets to protect sensitive skin from zippers. They pair comfortable clothing, but also keep style and fashion forward designs in mind.

Review of Vichy ProEVEN Advanced Daily Dark Spot Corrector for Chick Advisor

Review of Vichy ProEVEN Advanced Daily Dark Spot Corrector for Chick Advisor

I love Chick Advisor, because they let me try out some pretty amazing products. I had never used anything from Vichy before, so I was excited to give the brand a try and start using Vichy ProEVEN Advanced Daily Dark Spot Corrector.

After a hard winter, my skin is pretty blah. I’ve been lucky because I haven’t had too many major breakouts, but due to lack of sun I don’t have much color in my face.

I started using the product over a week ago, and around that time I came down with something I have never had before – pink eye! I was afraid to use a new cream in the midst of this minor health emergency, but things got a little drastic so I gave it a try. My left cheek ended up getting very red and irritated – I am not sure what it had to do with my pink eye situation, but they seemed to be linked. My face was really itchy, so I started to use the Vichy cream to see what would happen.

Basically it soothed my skin and cleared up my red itchy patches so everything returned to normal. I was very happy to see that the cream not only soothed my itchy skin, but it went from red to that blah winter left over skin color I already had going on.

Once my skin was back to normal and the pink eye had cleared up, I continued to use the product twice daily to see what else it could offer.

I applied it every morning, and every night over my cleansed skin as instructed.

It claims to target all sources of hyperpigmentation to reduce the colour, intensity, and size of dark spots.

I don’t have many dark spots, but I do have one that recently came up under my nose (ok, I’m not good at waiting for blemishes to just disappear!) that I have been using concealer on for a while now. I wasn’t sure how to lighten it up, so I specifically targeted that area, and the rest of my face to see what results would come up.

The cream absorbs quickly, and it’s not greasy at all. It actually smells pretty good too. I would apply it all over my skin, and concentrated more on my dark spot. I could wear the cream under makeup and it didn’t make it slide around at all!

Since using the cream my skintone has been much more brighter and even. I was really surprised – it sort of livened my face up a bit! That dark spot isn’t gone yet, but it’s just a little bit lighter which made me really happy.

I’ve had no breakouts since using the product, and I’ve been really happy with the results. The tone of my skin seems just a little bit brighter. It’s officially been added to my beauty arsenal!

The cream is also Hydroquinone free, Paraben-free and hypoallergenic.

The average price of this product is $48.50, but it’s a rather large tube and would last a long time because little is needed. It’s worth the price to me. To see more Chick Advisor reviews on the product, click here! To learn more about Vichy and the ProEven line, click here.
