Review of Our Stay at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa

My son recently read a book this summer called Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul which was all about a family road trip. He was bothering us all summer to go on a road trip, and luckily we had a big one planned for the end of the summer!

I spent the summer excited as well because we would be returning to Massachusetts – Cape Cod to be exact! We had a quick overnight stay in Cape Cod the last summer, but we really didn’t get to see much as it was a quick stopover during our trip. We live just outside of Toronto and we find it an easy drive that we haven’t minded doing this year and last. 9.5 hours sounds like a long time, but if you have some great podcasts and some fun movies on Netflix for the little one, it doesn’t take long!

This year we were excited to explore more of Cape Cod, and take in the experience at staying at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa for a few nights while we were there!

Here’s the problem with Cape Codder Resort – once you are there, you really don’t want to, or need to leave!

The resort has three restaurants, a spa, gift shop, an outdoor pool, a basketball and tennis court, gym, an arcade, and a 30,000 square foot indoor water park! You could stay at the resort and have everything you need without leaving the property, so we found ourselves spending more of our stay in Cape Cod right at our resort.

Before you get started with reading the details, check out this video we made of our stay!

Looks like a fun trip right? We had a blast! As Canadians, we love visiting this area of the United States, and this resort was truly a gem! The grounds were beautiful, and there was so much to do!

Much of the Cape Codder Resort and Spa property has been updated and refreshed!

The comfortable lobby greets you warmly, and I loved hearing that the beautiful art behind the check-in desk and the stunning grand chandelier were both created by local Cape Cod artists!

The room options at the resort are surprisingly vast! I suppose I’m used to deciding on one bed or two – a suite or a regular room. At the Cape Codder Resort and Spa there are family suites (which we were lucky enough to stay in), which included one bedroom, a living room with a pullout couch, a Murphy bed, a kitchenette and two bathrooms PLUS we had a view of the water park!

Other room options included a Loft Room with spiral stairs leading to a bedroom, and the Cape Codder Residences that had one, two or three bedrooms including a full kitchen, living room and dining room! To learn more about the Residences at the Cape Codder, check out the details here!

I have to start with the obvious – the incredible Cape Codder Water Park!

After you take in its vast size (and wow it’s HUGE!), there were a few things as a parent I had to highlight. It is SO CLEAN. Listen, as a mother you really notice these things are you go to places where large groups of children play together!

This water park was immaculate – no garbage left anywhere, the water was clean, and the floors were kept rather dry for a water park! Even the decorative sand surrounding the park was freshly raked in the morning. There was a little snack bar in the water park that was kept tidy as well. I was very impressed!

Lifeguards were all over the water park. For that matter even the year-round outdoor pool had a constant lifeguard, but the water park had them in multiple locations for peace of mind.

The water park included a 24 person whirlpool, saunas, change rooms, lockers, a wave pool with two foot waves, a 160 food high-speed water slide, a 50 and 80-foot water slide, what they called Pirate Bay with small water slides, water cannons and a small section for kids to play in, and finally my favorite part – a lazy river that would turn stormy ever so often!

The roof was retractable, so on a nice day the sun would shine in and it would feel like you were outside. I can’t even explain how impressed I was with this water park – it was pretty epic. Basically a child’s dream come true, and I have to admit my husband and I were pretty enamoured with it as well!

We loved the outdoor head pool as well – it was so relaxing to lay by during our trip.

The water park is included in direct reservations with the hotel, but it is also possible to buy admission the water park as well. There’s nothing else like it in Cape Cod so it was definitely a must-see destination!

What else did we take advantage of as a guest?

At night we roasted marshmallows by the campfire in a sandy spot in the courtyard, and after we headed over to the see a movie in the outdoor theatre. It was the perfect way to spend the night!

The Kids Activity Schedule had all kinds of free things to do while we stayed at the resort including face painting, reptile and animal shows, crafts, ice cream socials, and live music. There were multiple activities happening every day so there was always lots to do.

Remember what I said about never having to leave the resort? It’s true – there was something different to do every day! During the year they also offer special packages including Super Hero’s and Villains and also Pirate and Princess Weekends to name a few.

Food! We had dinner at The Deck on the terrace our first night, and everything we ate was amazing! Our son had spaghetti and meatballs and my husband and I both wanted to steal it – this wasn’t a kids meal, it was kids cuisine! My fresh seafood pasta was to die for, and my husband is on a health kick and he ordered a salad I almost traded him for!

Hearth n’ Kettle Restaurant is the mainstay of the Cape Codder Resort. The resort is family owned, and before it came to fruition the family started the Hearth n’ Kettle Restaurant!

Once they were set to open the resort they moved the Hearth n’ Kettle to the resort, and the rest is history. We had both breakfast and dinner here, and the portions were huge, and the restaurant was always buzzing with guests. The food was so good!

We didn’t get a chance to try the Grand Cru Restaurant during our stay but we were told the food from The Deck was from the same kitchen! We heard that they had live jazz and blues on Friday and Saturday nights and an impressive wine list!

Have you heard of Pickle Ball? I hadn’t before, but apparently it’s huge in the US! They had a court to play, along with tennis and basketball (and equipment for you to borrow), and they had all kinds of board games to borrow during your stay.

My biggest regret? I didn’t make time for the spa! The Beach Plum Spa is a gem at this resort. I took a tour of the space and immediately felt the need for a treatment. It’s a very large space in the resort and includes a serenity room, small spa gift shop, many different treatment rooms, and a nail salon.

You are offered a robe and slippers upon your arrival, and the spa offers everything from massages, facials, peels, and they even have a kids corner for their own little treatments! The have a hair salon in the spa as well, and they have brow and waxing services. They had every service imaginable to add to your stay. I really wish I booked something when I checked in – it seemed like the perfect place to spend some time to myself.

Although we didn’t have to leave the resort, we did venture out to Provincetown for one of the days of our trip to see some of the sights. We spent time walking the dock, shopping the downtown, eating at The Canteen (we loved the food), and doing all of the touristy things there are to do in Cape Cod!

The Cape Codder Resort is in a great location because there are lots of restaurants and attractions nearby, and you are only a few minutes from the ocean. The second leg of our trip included some time in Martha’s Vineyard, and the ferry dock was less than ten minutes from the resort!

I can’t stress enough was a great time we had at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa! Our son thought it was such a cool place to stay – he had a waterpark right outside his room, there was an arcade open 24/7 down the hall, outdoor movies, we could roast marshmallows, and we had so many children’s activities to choose from!

We loved the food, and loved the convenience of having everything we needed all in the resort! If you have any particular questions about the resort or our stay, feel free to send me a message!

Thank you so much to the Cape Codder Resort and Spa for hosting us! We had an amazing time!
