David Dixon Fall/Winter 2015 at World MasterCard Fashion Week

David Dixon Fall Winter 2015 wmcfw 6

My first day of this year’s World MasterCard Fashion Week began on Tuesday, and I started it off with the David Dixon show. This year he is celebrating the 20th anniversary of his label, and the show was absolutely packed.

Everyone was buzzing around us with excitement for the show, and also trying to politely claw their way to the closest chair to the runway!

The show started with a look back at the designer’s two decades of work, followed by a video of David Dixon himself reflecting on his work and the industry he is a part of.

The show also started with a quote from Joan of Arc, who was one of the inspirations behind his line.

The models had MAJOR hair. Tousled braid’s that were loosely pulled together inspired me to get a hold of some mousse, and some voluminous hair extensions stat!

The model’s wore a black and while color palette, and most of the designs sported corsets and bustiers. Every outfit made me think that the woman wearing it looked empowered, and almost like a female warrior. It was fierce!

My favourite part was the capes and coats that came down the runway.

There was lots of leather and wool for this Fall/Winter 2015 line, and the show finished off with beautiful flowing dresses that really brought everyone’s camera’s out.

I loved the collection, and I thought it was a really wearable line for a gal heading to an event in Toronto. Some of it was maybe a bit more risqué for some, but I would love to wear any of it!

Here are a few of my favourite looks from the show!

Floral Kimono’s For Spring

Flowered kimonos for spring Mandy Furnis sparkleshinylove

I’m so ready for spring! I love walking into stores and seeing florals everywhere. This weekend I went nuts buying dresses and skirts with any kind of floral pattern.

A couple weeks ago I went on a weekend trip to the U.S. and bought this pretty kimono from Forever 21. As soon as I saw the pattern I was sold.

Floral Kimono’s are everywhere for spring right now, so they are easy to find at pretty much any price point. I chose to wear this one with jeans, but I can’t wait to wear it with jean shorts, or even as a cover-up with a bathing suit.

With festivals like Coachella coming up, this easy-going, flowing top would fit in perfectly with the music fesival vibe if you wanted to style it that way.

Check out a few more I’ve shopped online below as well!

Street-Style Worthy High Top Sneakers

Nike high tops sparkleshinylove

One of my favourite things to look at online are photos of street-style. Pinterest even has a category for it now, so I’m not the only one. I think it’s more fun to look at those types of styles rather than haute couture which is pretty unattainable for the average girl.

I really love the way people style sneakers into their wardrobe – especially high top sneakers.

I’m pretty obsessed with these new Nike High Top Sneakers I got last month at Holt Renfrew. I wear them any chance I get, and they are so comfortable! Stylish and comfortable are usually two things that do not go together in fashion, so I’m a happy girl.

I asked for these shoes for Valentines Day from my husband, and he thought I was a little crazy until he saw them. He thinks they are pretty awesome too. Which is good, since he paid for them and all.

Now I want to add more high top’s to my shoe collection, and here are a few more of my favourites below!

Styling a Bohemian Headband Featuring Bechique

Bechique sparkleshinylove

I love accessories that do more than compliment an outfit – I covet the ones that you create an outfit around.

I came across this amazing headband from a boutique called bechique on Etsy, and I knew this would be one of those coveted pieces for me.

Chelsea from bechique creates accessories that have a bohemian, free-spirited vibe that she designs and creates herself.

I wanted to pair the headband with an easy white dress and my fringed Minnetonka’s that I’ll be wearing all year since it’s all about the fringe this year.

I love finding things on Etsy because many the designers create things you are not going to find anywhere else. You’ll be seeing me wearing a lot of this headband in the near future!
