My husband comes from a family of boat builders. His grandfather started his own boat building business (they made sailboats), and he made the family tug boat and sailboat we use during the summer. My husband spent most of his weekends as a child working on those boats – fixing them, sailing them, and working around the family dock.

Now our weekends as a family are spent at the dock with my husband doing the same work, and our son has grown very comfortable on boats as well. A few more years from now I’m sure they will be off on their own, sailing away without me on some sort of adventure! They’ve already left me a night or two for a sleepover on the boat, so it’s really become a big part of our lives.

Martha’s Vineyard was a destination this summer for our family, but it brought a different appeal to both my husband and I. He was excited to see the yachts and museums in the area, while I was ready to eat lobster whenever I had the chance, see the sights, and relax with a bit of retail therapy in some of the quaint shops.

I feel like our family leans towards a nautical style as it is. Our home has a feature wall filled with photos of vintage boats, and boats that my husband’s family built. I own at least a dozen sweaters with nautical stripes, and we all have a pair of deck shoes!

Before heading to Nantucket we chose watches from the Bulova Marine Star Collection. We each chose a piece that complimented our own personal style and had that East Coast nautical feel.

I’ve mentioned on the blog before that I had never owned a watch before my first Bulova one, and my preference for the brand still rings true now. I have a few watches from Bulova now, and each has its own unique style that matches my personal asthetic.

This Marine Star Diamond Watch is my first gold watch, and it’s such a beautiful piece! It has 29 individually set diamonds, a mother-of-pearl inder dial, and it has a gold-tone stainless steel case and bracelet.

My husband chose something a bit more classic nautical with a blue leather band and red stitch detail. The Bulova Men’s Marine Star Chronograph Watch has a six-hand chronograph function with calendar, and the gold-tone stainless steel case to match the tone of my watch.

I love that we aren’t the type of couple to wear matching outfits (in my head I see Justin and Britney in their matching denim), but instead we find more subtle ways to compliment each other, and it’s usually with our watches.

Thank you to Bulova for providing us with these beautiful watches for our trip!
