Saturday’s are for shopping, right? Instead of sleeping in it’s nice to head out the door a little earlier than usual to have a bit of time relaxing and browsing the racks at some local stores.

This past Saturday I left the boys behind and went shopping down Queen West. I stopped in a store called Sylvie and Shimmy, and I left with a rather full shopping bag!

Sylvie and Shimmy was rather busy on a Saturday morning with customers looking to do the same as I was – browsing through shops and enjoying the sunshine while roaming to and from each store.

The best part about not shopping at a huge shopping mall? Not being stuck inside! It’s a different feeling to shop at boutiques and small shops while having a few moments of sunshine in between each stop.

For me, shopping in a local store often means a more personalized experience.

I spent time chatting with the girls in the shop that Saturday morning and I was offered assistance with my hunt for the perfect outfit. I was also offered a change room the moment I chose to hold something from the store in my hands!

My pet peeve about big chain stores often lays in the lack of customer service. I always feel like it’s hard to find someone to help me with getting a change room, or finding staff on the floor when I’m searching for a size.

At Sylvie and Shimmy that just wasn’t the case – the ladies were so accommodating, and helping customers all over the store with genuine effort.

I not only loved the eclectic decor at Sylvie and Shimmy, but I felt like this store had so many amazing finds.

Most of their products are made by small independent designers from both South Korea and Canada. Their price point was also very reasonable – I imagined a sweater I was picking up had to be at least $100-$150 but it was under $50!

It was nice to walk into this store and just fall in love with everything. There were so many great finds! I bought everything I tried on!

Shopping local and supporting those businesses in your area is important for so many reasons. Small shop owners and their staff in my experience want to have a long standing relationship with their customers. I love getting to know them and supporting their businesses to keep the downtown thriving. It’s admirable that they have put in so much work to create a business, and I love to support these kind of endeavors.

Someone else who loves to team up with small local business is Moneris! They make transactions easy for both retailers and customers such as myself because of their payment solutions.

It’s so each to either tap my card or quickly insert it into a Moneris machine to pay the way I choose. They have payment solutions for every type of business which I as a customer appreciate because it makes shopping easier for me!
