My At-Home Gel Manicure With SensatioNail Fuse Starter Kit

Fuse-Gelnamel

For a girl who tries to stay on top of the trends, I’m embarrassed to say my first time doing a gel manicure was for this blogpost. Crazy right? I’ve heard rave reviews about them, but I’ve never really looked into doing one myself.

I do my own nails a lot. Like one to two times a week! I’m constantly changing my polish because I’ve either chipped it, or I feel like a colour change.

The hard part about my at-home manicures has been the presence of my toddler. I am always waiting for his nap or bed time to do my nails so they have a chance to dry.

I was a little worried that a gel manicure would be too time consuming for me to take on with the limited time I have to spare.

The SensatioNail Fuse Starter Kit is so pint-sized that it’s hard to believe what it includes. A Fuse Gelnamel colour, nail file, manicure stick, Gel Cleanser, cleansing cloths, and a high-powered Fuse LED lamp is included in the kit.

The Fuse Gelnamel polish formula ensures you don’t need a base or top coat which makes life even easier!

Since this was my first time doing a gel manicure, I read the instructions very carefully. I usually skip the whole “instructions” part of a project, but I figured I’d better play by the rules this time around. It was pretty easy because there weren’t many (part of the reason I was following them). Basically I had to wipe my nails with the cleanser, then add the polish. It was important to do very thin coats! The tiny LED lamp easily plugged in, and the button to turn the light on would stay on for 30 seconds, which is all you would need to set the polish on each nail.

The final step was to cleanse the nail again, and that’s it. I was surprised how easy it was. Each nail had to be painted and set with the LED lamp one nail at a time, and that was actually a good thing for me because the first time I tried the kit my son woke up with a nightmare (of course) during his nap! Luckily I was able to run upstairs and soothe him without getting my new manicure all over him.

I decided to try one of the SensatioNail colour kits because it included a matching sparkle polish. Fuse also sells individual colours as well which you can use once you buy the starter kit.

The real test for me would be how long this polish would last without chipping. My nails are the worst – they are always breaking, and I chip my polish all the time. I kept track of my progress to see how long the manicure would last over the holidays.

Eight days is a new record for me for sure. I’m used to making it three days without a chip if I’m lucky! On the 9th day I finally chipped a nail, and decided it was time to remove the polish.

I used the SensatioNail Gel Polish Removal Kit and SensatioNail Gel Polish Removal Tool for this part. The foil had pads inside that I saturated with acetone, and left on for fifteen minutes. Once I removed the foil, most of the polish slid off as well. I used the removal tool to remove the rest of the polish easily.

The whole process ended up being a lot easier than I expected! It gave my nails a chance to grow as well since the gel manicure prevented my nails from breaking. The best part was how quick the process was. Thirty seconds for each nail to dry was very impressive, and was perfect for someone like me who doesn’t have a lot of time to work on their manicure.

I’m not sure why it took me so long to try a gel manicure, but now I get what everyone is raving about. This home kit couldn’t have made it easier for me!

You can find the SensatioNail Fuse Starter Kit, and other SensatioNail products at most major drug stores (including Shoppers Drug Mart), and online here.

My Favourite Stylish Winter Boots

Women's TOFINO kettle-waterproof-winter-boots

I’ve never actually owned a real pair of winter boots. I have many pairs of UGGS for cold winter days, but once they get wet they are miserable to wear. This year I thought I could get away with wearing my Hunter boots, but they weren’t keeping my feet warm so I bought these cozy cable knit boot socks instead of splurging on new boots.

They were definitely the most expensive socks I have ever purchased at $49.99, but I thought they would be much cheaper than buying new winter boots.

We have a mini getaway planned soon, and we are planning on spending a lot of time outdoors. I hate being cold, so I am thinking about splurging on new boots just in case my expensive socks don’t cut it. Obviously this has been terrible planning on my part since now I have expensive socks, and I’m probably going to buy boots too. Things like this make my husband crazy I’m sure.

Winter boots are a actually pretty fashionable these days, and even my Mom has cute Dior boots that are so nice I’d wear them in the summer. Ok, I think I’ve talked myself into it – I clearly need winter boots! Here are a few of my favourites that I found while shopping online that I’m considering purchasing (unless my Mom is willing to lend/gift me her Dior ones because she loves me so much).

My Favourites From The Toronto Christmas Market

Toronto-Christmas-market

Every year we head to the Toronto Christmas Market to do some holiday shopping, eat some great food, and just to generally get into the holiday spirit.

Usually we head to the market on a weekend, but this year we went on a weekday and it was great! No long lines, no crowds, easy parking – it was lots of fun.

If you have haven’t been, or haven been yet this year I have rounded up some of my favourites from the market this year.

The KINDER Smile Booth is located on Santa’s Lane, and families can head inside and have their photo taken for free. I loved their cute Lil’ Sled Parking area!

The Walmart Holiday Helper Workshop offers free hot chocolate, cookies, and they have lots of demo toys to try out. You can also get a free photo with Evan the elf, and they have lots of tablets available so you can order gifts from Walmart.ca on the spot.

One of my favourite places to shop in the Distillery District is Blackbird Vintage Finds.

I pretty much buy something every time I go there. I love all of their lotions and creams! They have great stocking stuffers and gifts that you can’t find anywhere else.

You can’t walk out of this store without buying something! Their curated selection for men and women, and their selection lifestyle products are totally on trend. Basically it’s a dangerous place for me to shop.

mini mioche is a store I’ve blogged about in the past (since I love it), and most recently I included some of their items in my Toddler Gift Guide.

I love that they have a great little play area for kids so you can take advantage of them being preoccupied while you shop!

My favourite part about the Christmas Market is the food! The vendors outside have so much to offer, but some of the restaurants in the area are my favourites.

We’ve been to Mill Street Brew Pub which is pretty kid friendly (high chairs, kids menu, and nice and loud!), and El Catrin before, but after recently eating at Cluny Bistro & Boulangerie, we decided to go there again.

They had high chairs and a children’s menu, and our son loved their gnocchi! The freshly baked bread basket was a pretty big hit with our toddler as well. One thing to note is that they don’t have plastic glasses, so I spent the whole time my son was drinking his water hovering around him in case he accidentally broke his glass. We had a great lunch! I love how pretty this restaurant is! It’s gorgeous. The service has been great both times we have been there, and the food was really creative and impressive. We had to stop next door to take home some macarons as well of course!

Holiday Party Dresses in Any Colour But Black!

Club-Monaco-Colby-Dress

I have nothing against the colour black, but here are so many great party dresses out there right now that are NOT black!

Black is definitely the safe choice, and although I often make it as well (and there are for sure some pretty amazing black dresses out there right now), sometimes it’s fun to wear white in the winter, or a great red dress for a Christmas party.

This year my husband and I have separate holiday parties to attend, and mine is casual so I will live vicariously through the rest of you with some of these adorable picks for holiday party dresses. I love a good holiday party! And I love a good dress. How can I not be going to a holiday party this year? Does anyone need a plus one?

Anyway, take a look at some of the dresses I would like to be wearing if I was in fact actually going to a holiday party this year.

My List of the Best Toddler Gifts for Christmas

AKID-Jasper

With less than a month to go until Christmas, I am feeling more than a little stressed about my holiday shopping. I’m not done! Everywhere on Facebook and Instagram I’m seeing perfectly trimmed trees with already wrapped presents underneath, and I am freaking out. I totally used to be one of those organized people, but having a child has curbed my preparedness for the holidays. At this point I’m usually at least half done my shopping, but this time around I only have a few gifts checked off my list.

My latest obsession is finding great gifts for my toddler, and I am sharing with you some of my favourite finds!

This mini mioche #timeout tee would probably be more for the parent than the child!

Onaroo Teach Me Time Talking Alarm Clock and Nightlight

This alarm clock teaches time, plays games, and changes colours when set to tell your toddler what time it’s ok to get up. Because sometimes they need to be told that it’s not ok to get up before the sun rises.

AKID-Jasper

OBSESSED with these AKID Jasper boots. They need to get into my toddler’s closet ASAP.

Construction-utensil-set

My son has this construction utensil set, and it’s perfect because it makes him want to use cutlery, and in this case he can play with his food at the same time.

Foreign-language-blocks

These Foreign Language Blocks will come in handy once your toddler masters their first language. How impressive would it be to have a bilingual child on the playground? I’M not even bilingual, so I would be pretty impressed.

Good luck with your holiday shopping!
