My Experience with Power Yoga Canada

logo

When I first heard that a Power Yoga Canada location was opening near me I wasn’t really sure what to expect.  I had an amazing yoga and pilates studio that I was going to, but I  recently moved so it just wasn’t convenient anymore.  I was biased toward the small studio I went to and I wasn’t sure how I felt about a larger company like Power Yoga Canada.

I had also never done hot yoga before and wasn’t too sure of what to expect.  I had heard things like “It’s really hot” and “Really – it’s hot”, but beyond that I hadn’t heard much so I decided to experience it for myself.  New members of Power Yoga Canada can receive an amazing deal of $30 for 30 days of yoga.  I signed up for this and figured that as long as I attended a few classes it would make up for what I paid.

The studio that I went to (Oshawa) was a lot different than I had imagined!  It really had a comfortable feel like the small studio I was used to.  There was someone to greet me at the door who seemed really happy I was there!  I had a quick tour to see the lockers, showers and the main room.

intro

Ok so hot yoga is really hot!  Just sitting in the room for the first time was a bit shocking because it is so warm.  Once you get over the shock you get used to the heat.  They keep the temperature at 37 degrees.

You should bring a mat, water bottle, and a towel for all of the sweat you need to wipe away during your class!  They also rent mats and towel’s for $2 each.

My first class was much like any other yoga class I had been to, but the instructor was full of energy.  I was in a very large class but the instructor took the time to check on each student throughout the class.  At the end of the class we were provided a cold towel (which had an amazing smell!) to cool us down, and then it was back to the real world.

I think the one major difference between regular yoga and hot yoga for me is that a shower is absolultely necessary after hot yoga!  You sweat in places you didn’t even know it was possible!  When I would attend a regular pilates or yoga class it was easy to just go home or go out and do something else, but with hot yoga you need to actually clean yourself up.

My favourite part about Power Yoga Canada is a class they call Power Yoga Jam.  It’s a regular yoga class that is paired with loud music.  Everything from a Bob Marley theme, to dance music, to rock music is done twice a week at my location and it’s my absolute favourite class.  For me it’s totally worth all of the sweating to take part in this fun workout.

I love that every time I walk into the studio someone is there to greet me personally and act like they are welcoming me into their studio.  PYC does not have the feel of a large company – it feels like a small studio where they actually care how you are doing and think you are important.

Power Yoga Canada has regular classes each week, and then they also offer workshops each month as well.

There is even a Little Pretzels (kids yoga) class which intertwines a yoga poses with creative play for ages 4-10.

Classes can be paid for by each session, or there are passes for a set number of classes.  You can sign up for a class online so they know to expect you (and you can also pay online), but I often just popped by as a walk in and there were never any issues.

Locations include Oshawa, Mississauga, Leaside, Etobicoke, St. Catherine’s, Muskoka, Oakville, and Georgetown opening on December 7th.  On their website you can download podcasts of classes for you to do at home, and they have an app to help you sign up and pay for classes.

Where to Shop – Holiday Gifts from Henry’s

People have been asking me for weeks what is on my Christmas list this year.  My usual answer is anything pink and sparkly, but sometimes my friends and family need something more specific.  I cant imagine why – I feel like pink and sparkly encompasses everything that is important, but maybe that’s just me!

Lately I’ve been more interested in photography because of the work I am doing on my blog.  I’ve been looking a lot at cameras and accessories, and I’ve found a lot of neat gift ideas at Henry’s!

Something I desperately need is the Sony QX10 camera.  I am always using my iPhone to take photos, and sometimes I take the perfect photo but when I go to print it the quality isn’t good enough.  The QX10 mounts to your iPhone or Android, and has a 10x optical zoom.  It also allows instant edits and sharing with apps, which is perfect if you want to quickly post something via social media.  When I’m packing my clutch for a night out I find that I can only fit three items if I’m lucky.  The first two items are always my lip gloss and cell phone (I think this is every girl’s mandatory items), and at that point fitting a regular sized camera is not an option! The QX10 would be perfect to pop into your purse.

I received the Cannon SELPHY CP900 ($109.99) as a gift and I’m totally obsessed with it.  It’s a mini photo printer that you can set up wirelessly with your phone or tablet.  I rarely printed photos from my iPhone or iPad until I had this.  The printing quality is amazing, and it’s so convenient to work from the app on my phone so you can have a photo in your hands in seconds.

Another fun gift is the Fujifilm Instax Mini 7s ($89.99).  It’s a modern Polaroid camera that not only looks adorable, but prints out business card sized images instantly to share with friends.

This iPhone 5 case is a gift for the person who wants something unique and original.  The case is made from real cherry wood, and is engraved to the likeness of the Leica M9 camera.  It seems like a fun gift for the guy in your life who is hard to shop for.

My final gift idea from Henry’s is the Joby GorillaPod Magnetic Tripod.  It has powerful magnetic feet that sticks to get a great shot.  It’s super light and has a locking mechanism so it will stay put in whatever wacky position you need it in.  Every Christmas our family try’s to do a group shot, and because everyone needs to be in the photo we have to find some wacky spot to place the camera.  Usually boxes, magazines and other random items are used to balance the camera, so I feel like this is a much smarter option!

Order Groceries From Your Couch With Grocery Gateway

GroceryGatewayLogo

It’s cold, it’s windy, and it’s snowy outside!  The last thing I want to do is bundle up my son and try to load groceries from the store to my car, and then from my car to my house.  My alternative is to shop online with Grocery Gateway!

To order your groceries you need to create an account on their website – www.grocerygateway.com.  Once the account is set up you can start shopping.  There is an App as well which makes things even easier.

Your account saves your past orders so its easy to look back and order the same items.  Your account also creates a list of the items you order most often as well for the same purpose.
The shipping cost is $9.99, and for your first order Grocery Gateway provides $15 off your first order, so you can basically try the service for free.
You can choose a block of time when your order will be delivered, and the delivery window is 2 hours long.  You can also choose if you want to pay in advance via credit card, or at the door via debit.
IM
The order is delivered in boxes, and the next time you order you can return the boxes so they can be recycled.
Grocery Gateway periodically sends out coupons via email which often cover the shipping cost, so it’s really just the groceries you are paying for.

I did have a couple instances where an item was missing, or I received the wrong item.  All I needed to do is call customer service and they either credited my account for next time, or offered to have the missing or wrong items delivered right away!
Check out the website and try ordering groceries from your couch!

Where to Shop – L’Wren Scott for Banana Republic

image

Earlier this year Banana Republic announced a collaboration with designer L’Wren Scott.  The capsule collection will launch in stores and online on December 5th.  The 50 piece collection ranges from $40 to the $200 mark, and it’s full of party dresses and jewel-toned pants.

L’Wren has dressed Madonna and is dating a Rolling Stone, and that seems to be reflected in the sequins, jewels and big lips printed all over the collection!

“It’s chic luxury for the holidays that’s glamorous and fun,” L’Wren said about the collection.

I’m pretty excited this collection can be shopped online so I won’t have any line ups to worry about.  Here are a few of my favourites below!

Where to Shop – Penney and Company

Penney and Co 3

Michael Penney is a designer, blogger and owner of Penney and Company – a decor store that is styled so beautifully that you almost want to buy a whole section of the store instead of one piece!

Michael does in home consultations, and is often featured in Style at Home Magazine, Chatelaine Magazine, and the Marilyn Denis Show.  His store has everything from holiday decor and furniture, to soaps and lotions for great hostess gifts or Christmas presents.

His store is located in downtown Whitby, and if you are looking for a special gift for someone it’s the perfect spot to find something unique.

I’m currently going through a home renovation of my own, and right away I thought of this store to find one of Michael’s refinished tables for my home.  Michael takes unique pieces of furnature and refinishes them into something hip and new.

Here are some of my favourite items in the store right now!
